Brown Bag Lunch

Contact: Mary Anne Pisano, 717-413-8515

Donate to BBL

The Brown Bag Lunch Program utilizes warm and welcoming volunteers and parish staff who, using food items either donated or purchased with funds from the St. Vincent DePaul Society, kindly prepare a brown bag lunch usually consisting of a sandwich, fruit item, snack, dessert and beverage.

These lunches, which are distributed each weekday from 11:30 AM-1 PM at the St. Anne Parish office building, feed approximately 125 people a day. Three to four volunteers are utilized each day to prepare and serve the lunches. Volunteers can sign up to work monthly, weekly or as a substitute. Donated food items such as pretzels, cookies, bread, fresh fruit, etc. are always needed, as well as supplies such as brown bags, sandwich and snack baggies.

The Homebound Ministry is a ministry of servant and sacrament devoted to bringing the Eucharist to homebound parishioners. Ministers to the homebound typically are Eucharistic Ministers who bring the Eucharist and good news of the Gospel directly from Mass. Visits can also be made during the week. If you are an Extraordinary Minister (or parishioner with a calling to visit the homebound) and wish to broaden your ministry experience in this special way, please contact the Parish Office. Scheduling is flexible, and an orientation is provided.

Community Meals

Contact: Christina Brennan, 717-666-5981

Prepare and serve a hot meal on the first Friday of the month six times a year (alternating months: February, April, June, August, October and December) at St. Mary's Church to approximately 50-75 individuals. This ministry is part of a larger, county-wide, multi-faith ministry that offers the hungry of Lancaster a hot meal each night of the week at various locations. Cooks are scheduled to prepare a meal once a year. Cooks decide the menu and cook from St. Mary’s commercial kitchen. Servers work from 4 pm to 6:30 pm setting up, serving and cleaning up. We are currently in need of volunteers - especially cooks. Please call Christina for more information or to volunteer.

Funeral Luncheons

Contact: Christina Brennan, 717-392-2225

Offer the comfort and solace found in a luncheon buffet to those who have participated in funeral services at St. Anne Church. The opportunity to share a meal with family and friends in a faith-filled environment can assist the grieving and mourning of a loved one called to eternal rest. You can prepare, provide or serve food; set up or clean up. The Funeral Lunch Committee's goal is to provide a free lunch for fifty people in a comfortable environment for the relatives and friends of a deceased parishioner. We are able to offer soft music and have the capability to show DVDs of the deceased's life, if requested, during the luncheon in the Parish Library.

Responsibilities consist of calling parishioners to donate food, shopping at the local market for items not provided by donation, setting up the room, cleaning up afterwards and coordinating with the Parish Office to ensure that adequate serving pieces are available.

Catholic Worker House

Contact: Dan Gallagher, 717-392-0277

The Catholic Worker House, named the Corpus Christi House, is located at 41 West Vine Street in Lancaster. The mission of the Catholic Worker House is to welcome and provide hospitality to the "stranger". The primary purpose of the Catholic Worker House, however, is to provide housing to the working poor. It also fulfills its mission through a winter clothing drive; providing a hot meal on most Saturdays throughout the year; providing an Easter Sunday meal for anyone with food insecurity; and, hosting two temporary homeless shelters in the winter at various area churches within the City of Lancaster. In the summer, volunteers tend to a garden in order to grow the vegetables used for meal.

St. Anne Parish is a supporting parish of the Catholic Worker House. All are invited to volunteer or donate to the Catholic Worker House. Contact Dan to get involved.
